Day trip down to Katoomba with the best friend via the good ol’ Putty Road beginning in the Hunter Valley. Had an interesting catch up with a herd of cattle on Broke Road Pokolbin before hitting Putty Road but thankfully they walked around my car instead of on it. Followed Putty Road and eventually turned off to head through Kurrajong and North Richmond (over the Hawkesbury River) and stopped at the Hawkesbury Lookout after incling some really tight bends. Travelled through Springwood and onto the Great Western Highway to Katoomba. Perfect weather; warm and sunny with a cool breeze. Took some snaps and had a chat with an unofficial tourist guide who insisted on us using his binoculars, gave me a mini book on happiness and the bible for spotting some bees and told us the mountains are blue because of eucalyptus and tea tree leaves and their oils mixing or something. We headed back to Newcastle around 3pm via the Great Western Hwy - M7 - M2 - M1. It was a great but tiring adventure. 517kms, 7hrs.
